My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Reuben and Corned Beef!
The night of Monday November 18th Reuben and Corned Beef showed up on my front porch. I was sitting on my living room couch and heard whining outside the window. When I opened the door I was greeted by two puppies, one white and tan, one tan and white. The white one (Corned Beef) was more friendly and the tan one (Reuben) more skittish. They both let me pet them and eventually Corned Beef came inside.

A can of tuna got both of them in for a moment, but before I could close the door, Reuben bolted back out the door. He spent the next two hours pacing back and forth between the entrance of my house and the road. Eventually I gave them some scrambled eggs and that distracted both of them enough to get them completely inside with the door closed.

The first night they slept on the living room rug next to the couch where I slept to keep them company. Once their first night jitters wore off, they spent the next day sleeping. This was followed by a week’s worth of trying to find their owners and coming up empty. In those first few days, they often would run off before I could get leashes on them. Each time they showed back up on my front porch wanting inside and wanting something to eat. Since then I’ve watched their little personalities blossom into two ornery little doggies.

Reuben is curious, energetic, and wants to have his nose in everything. This makes him a quick learner for commands and tricks but also the first to get distracted and forget what is going on. He is the one that often instigates wrestling with his brother. If his brother has a toy, Reuben usually tries to take it. He must have everything all the time. When encountering something new, he needs the most reassurance that things are going to be ok. Once he feels safe though, he is a complete ham, wanting everyone’s attention. He showed this at Paws for the Holiday event recently. It took a while to get him in the door but after that, he wanted to be everyone’s friend. He is a lovable, affectionate dog that truly wants to be a good boy.

For a puppy, Corned Beef has mellow personality. While his brother is following you around the house, Corned Beef is often more interested in chewing his dog bone. When Reuben wants to play, Corned Beef is content with sitting in your lap. That shouldn’t fool you though. Corned Beef often is the one that finishes playing with his brother, continuing to chase him through the house. He is the type of

More about this rescue

The mission of One Love Animal Rescue, Inc. is to help abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted pets by partnering with shelters, rescue groups and the community to facilitate adoption of these animals into permanent and loving homes.

Our goal is to save one life at a time by promoting local animal shelter adoptions and raising awareness in our community about responsible pet ownership. We strive to highlight the importance of spaying or neutering pets which will aid in the reduction of overpopulation. We believe that appropriate and positive reinforcement training and socialization of these shelter animals will lead to well-adjusted family pets, thereby decreasing the number of abandoned animals in shelters. Our dream is that one day all the shelters will be empty because every pet will have a home.

One Love Animal Rescue, Inc. is a volunteer based organization located in Savannah, Georgia. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit and all donations directly benefit the animals entrusted in our care.
