My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update from Nika's Foster Family:
Personality: Nika is very loving and likes to be with people in the family. She loves her toys and chew bones. She does not really tear up her inside stuffed toys, but the stuffed dog bed did not fare as well! She is currently using a raised bed in the family room when out of the kennel. She does desperately want to get on the couch, however! Nika loves to go out in the backyard and run and play. She loves to chase a ball. She has a delightful personality and with training she will be a perfect companion.

Other people: She has been friendly with guests coming to the home and had no problem at the vet.

Other dogs: She loves the other older female dog in the home and likes to be with her. (Please note that the older female is extremely patient and good natured.) She also loves to play with 2 male dogs at the home of a family member. (She has not been around cats or other small animals.)

Children: There is a 6-year-old child in the home, and 4 and 7 year old children in a family member’s home. No problems in either home.

Training: Nika is very active and spunky and will require time and exercise both physically and mentally. She is very intelligent and will be very easy to train for someone who has time and is consistent. She will “sit” with the voice command and a finger gesture, even when she is excited to leave her kennel. She is exuberant and still needs some training basics. Very motivated by treats!

Kennel: Nika sleeps in her kennel with a blanket thrown over the top in a “shared” bedroom with a family member. She also eats in her kennel. She will also voluntarily goes to her open kennel for naps.

Housebroken: Almost completely there but has had a couple of accidents. Puddles only, no feces. The house has a doggie door and she learned how to use it the first time she saw the other dog go through. We still try to be diligent about putting her out often however.

Barking: No barking problem. However, she doesn't like to be shut up in her kennel alone in the bedroom if she knows other members of the family are home and will yip for a while. She is getting better with that. Her travel kennel is in the family room and she is happier in that one so she can be near the family and the other dog. Otherwise no complaints about barking.

Auto travel: Nika has traveled to the vet and another home a few times in a large travel kennel with her blanket and toys in the back of an SUV. She will not jump into the back of the SUV but will be very capable of it with training. If she is not in the kennel she will try to be in your lap! Still a little anxious but no loud whining or howling. Getting less anxious with every trip.
