My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $25 in pledges for the rescue that pulls **

Clubber Lang ACCT-A-208476 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Clubber Lang must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, December 29th by 10:00 am. Should Clubber Lang’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

Meet Clubber Lang! While his name may stem from being one of Rocky's boxing rivals, this boy doesn't exactly have an interest in fighting. He'd prefer to be cuddling and playing!

Clubber Lang, a 4 year old pup, is a sweet boy who can be a bit shy at first while he warms up to you. He was found as a stray in Philly and brought to the shelter on 12/6. He's overwhelmed in this loud environment but certainly warms up with treats and kind humans! Due to his nervousness, he is looking for a home with just adults, but is open to meeting kids 15+. He has had a good meet here in the shelter with another dog and may enjoy a canine companion who can zoom with him! Clubber Lang is noted to be a friendly and energetic guy who loves fetch and playtime. Volunteers have mentioned that Clubber Lang LOVES tennis balls and enjoys back scratches.

MEDICAL NOTES:

On 12/18 per exam: Clubber Lang was seen due to staff noting worms in stool. He was given a deworming treatment.

On 12/10 per exam: Clubber Lang had been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:

On 12/21 per volunteer: Today, I took Clubber Lang out for a dog meet with Wheezy and then played with him in the dog run. He was very excited to go outside and does really cute and funny little hops. I took him for a run around the parking lot before meeting Wheezy. I think he would be a great running partner as he has energy and seemed to really enjoy it. After a quick little jog, we walked with Wheezy. We then did a fence meet where Clubber Lang play bowed and couldn't wait for Wheezy to engage. The fence meet was great so we had them meet in the parking lot and they played well together. Clubber Lang was very tolerant of being sniffed by Wheezy and even didn't complain when Wheezy was climbing on him. See video of their meet! Then I took Clubber into the dog run and he happily sprinted all around. We played fetch and Clubber patiently waited for me to throw the ball. He sometimes brought the ball back and others he'd see another ball or toy to play with or just run around. After playing for a bit, I squatted down and he came over for pets. He liked his head and back being scratched. See his photos & videos playing and getting pets! Since it was quite cold out, I ran him back in and returned him to his kennel. He is such a happy pup, full of life, and seems to really enjoy other dogs!

On 12/15/24 per volunteer: Clubber Lang is an exceptionally friendly and playful boy. He was easy to leash to remove from his kennel, and he was very easy to manage during our walk. Clubber expresses his joyfulness going for a walk by prancing and hopping every now and then, but he doesn't pull hard. He appears very housetrained, going to the bathroom a number of times once we got outdoors. Once we got into the covered run, Clubber would follow me all around seeking my attention and pets. This boy especially loves to play fetch. He'll chase after all the toys and balls that are thrown, but his favorite is tennis balls. Clubber would eagerly wait for me to throw a tennis ball across the run and would scamper after it. A majority of the time, he would return the ball and drop it close to me. When he's not chasing balls, Clubber Lang displays a calm and affectionate demeanor by relaxing on my lap and enjoys back scratches. He is a well-mannered boy that will sit patiently for treats and gently take them, too. I had no problem returning him to his kennel. I had a lot of fun spending time with this wonderful boy.

On 12/13/24 per volunteer: CL greeted me with a loose and wiggly body! He’s very easy to leash- pulls a bit and enjoys romping around when he walks, but just an excited boy and overall easy to direct on leash. Took pets all over from me, sweet wiggly and affectionate! He was very loose when we walked by another dog, but didn’t do a full face-to-face meet. He knows sit and takes treats so gently! No issues returning to kennel and waited patiently while I mopped his kennel!

On 12/7/24 per staff: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Clubber Lang was curled up on his bed when I approached his kennel. He looked up with semi hard, wide eyes, and did not come forward at first. WHen I opened the door he came up with a tense, low body, and sniffed the leash. His hackles raised slightly when I reached over him with the leash, but he did not escalate, and came out once secured.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally. Fearful and walked with a tucked tail.

HANDLING:
When Clubber Lang first came into the room he was tense and fearful. He paced the room with a tucked tail and tried to keep some distance from me. He took multiple very large potty breaks, so he appears house trained! Once he had gotten his potties out his tail came untucked and he stuck close by me. He allowed some head and neck pets, but I could feel that he was still tense and trembling. He took treats very gently, and showed me his “sit”. With a bit of time he did give some low wags here and there, but he was very nervous and would shrink away if I bent down towards him. When I took things slow he was very tolerant, and allowed all handling. Overall, Clubber Lang is a very nervous boy who needs lots of treats and time to warm up.

PLAY:
Too fearful

TOYS:
Some interest but too fearful

COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Blue
