My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ruby was a Detroit stray left in an abandoned house. We thought she was either pregnant or had heartworm but she actually had a belly full of rocks (couldn't find anything else to eat) and worms. Ruby has been consistently putting on weight and looks like a brand new dog! She is seriously the sweetest, most lovable girl. Pictures make her look bigger than she is. She's actually a low-riding stubby-legged 'Detroit Special'. She's been getting along great with the other dogs here.

She loves everybody she meets. She will sit at your feet and go belly-up for belly rubs. She's a stage 5 clinger and if she likes you, she will follow your every move. Please consider adopting Ruby, you won't regret it!

More about this shelter

We are a family run rescue that we have established on our property. We pull from local animal control and shelters, as well as owner surrenders and high risk shelters. At Hard Licker Ranch we operate in small packs so that we can socialize the dogs as well as to understand the most about their personalities. We have 2 barns that are temperature controlled, and the dogs have 24 hour access to come in and out through weathered doggy doors. We do it to make life better for every dog that comes into our care and give them a second chance. We also do community outreach and TNR. Our rescue is also a Sanctuary for barn cats who need a home!
