My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

He's a fighter, a survivor!

Hey friends! My name is Nathaniel and I am an incredibly good boi! I am 2.5 years old, 54 lbs male fixed Coonhound mix. I was rescued from Rosarito, Mx where I was found just stumbling around. My brothers were also rescued by TAP. I received urgent medical attention after being diagnosed with Meningoencephalitis and I am a Distemper survivor. I am curently taking Levetiracetam (~$25.00 for 2 month's supply, price will vary on market value and where purchased) which helps prevent seizures with consistent usage. I also get regular Cytpoint injections to help manage allergies and is on Visbiome High Potency Probiotic to maintain GI health and balance. I have responded beautifully to the TLC and been an ace student with bathroom and leash manners. I get nervous pee reactions, but I am working on building confidence.

My biggest need is patience, as I have been through a lot and need a lot of encouragement and confidence help. But even then, I am so calm and sweet. I get some playful bursts of energy now that I am feeling safe and better! I like other dogs! About cats, I am mostly good, but some scare me! I am great with kiddos too. I do believe that my anxiety can be overcome with a dog friend! My foster mama loves to sing my praises and says that I am 'the sweetest cutest boy in the whole world'. I can be dramatic, especially when it comes to more treats, but I would be perfect for the active person looking to expand their dog pack. Since my health has improved, I have been enjoying activities like walks and being out with my family at bars or errands. Hiking is so much fun and I feel the most free. I am also great at laying around at home and with time, cuddling on the couch. I am a gentle sweet, scared boy with some funky quirks that you will only love.

I would do best with a lovely lady that I can call mom as men will take time to get used to. The ideal forever home is someone with a confident dog that can show me the ropes. I would like to have active weekends with car rides, hikes, or brewery hangs. My pawrent should be someone that enjoys walks so that I can get stimulation throughout the day. I would do best with company because being alone makes me somewhat anxious. If you think we can be pawfectly wonderful together, we better meet up! My adoption fee is $300 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
