Overview

Meet Shadow, a sweet and well-behaved 2-year-old Dachshund mix looking for his forever home. This handsome little guy weighs 11 pounds and sports a sleek black coat. While his past is a mystery, his future is bright with the right family!

Environment

Shadow has a wonderful, balanced energy level - he loves to play fetch but knows his limits with those short legs of his! A fenced yard would be nice for this little guy as he loves to run around. While he's not a big barker, he might whine a bit if he can see you but can't reach you. He's doing great with house training and is even learning to ring a bell to ask to go outside.

Pets & People

This sweet boy does well with adults and is generally good with other dogs, though he might try to assert himself as top dog in a playful way. He's good with older children who understand dog boundaries, but would do better in a home without small children as he will communicate his discomfort if his space isn't respected. Shadow will let you know when visitors arrive, but he's not an excessive barker. He has a bit of a prey drive and will chase squirrels when given the chance, and like many of his breed, he enjoys a good digging session! Around food, he might try to sneak a taste but isn't food aggressive.

Training & Travel

Shadow is crate trained and can be left alone for a few hours without issue. For car rides, he gets anxious and prefers to be on someone's lap, so he should be crated for safe travel. Due to his car anxiety, we're looking for adopters within a reasonable driving distance.

Location

Shadow is available for adoption from Killingly, CT. Please email miguel@mantunes.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Shadow is $375.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
