My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I have lived with cats.

I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.

I am looking for a home with a patient person.

Spoon has made significant improvement since her first assessment and now tolerates limited petting. She was at the front, quiet in loaf position and nose touched the assessor's finger and began eating treats. She allowed petting on the head and along the back. This went on for a little while before she began a little stress meowing. After a pause she allowed more petting with treats.

Spoon interacts with the observer, appreciates some attention, is fairly easy to handle and tolerates some petting. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in overstimulation/petting induced aggression and new home adjustment.

A volunteer writes: Spoon is a picture of progress at the shelter. While she hasn't been one to share any grand reaching paw stretches or insistent meows, Spoon has made a concerted effort to meet me halfway and I love her for that. Leaning her cheeks into my hand and softly cuddling, I absolutely adore the Spoon I know now. When I first met her, she was quick to air a growing list of grievances, but adapting to change doesn't always come easily. Over time and with a lot of patience, love, and treats, Spoon has shown us there's more to her than her initial hissy hellos and we've been so fortunate to see her personality shine through each day. Spoon was brought to us with another kitty and loves to just kind of relax, which sounds completely perfect. I offered Spoon some treats and she made no moves to get up but good naturedly sniffed. Slow blinking up at me, she was decidedly more interested in neck scritches. We know she has a lot to offer and we hope you'll come and give her a chance soon.
