He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.
My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.
A volunteer writes: Harp poked his head out of his cubby to check what I was doing. When he saw the treat in my hand, he looked at me plaintively and explained that while he wasn't quite ready to come all the way out to say hello, could he still have the treat? Of course! We all have different types of days, some much better than others, and Harp is trying really hard to get more good days but herein lies the challenge. Like many of our more sensitive hearted friends, he's not loving the Care Center. We don't know much about his life prior to coming here and all the big changes and the different sights and sounds that come around with them have been a bit much for our Harp. He's hoping that all of the efforts he makes to come out for treats will help endear himself to visitors because he knows that a better future is just ahead. We applaud his best and hope you will too!
