Meet Bing, a scared gal who would love to get herself out of this loud shelter! Poor Bing is VERY overwhelmed in the shelter, constantly panting and pacing. She's very shy of new handlers however opens up with time and treats!

Behavior:
12/14/24 volunteer notes: Bing is still fearful but way less so than when she first got here. She approaches readily for pets and treats and accepts all handling. Bing has a playful streak and will run around with you and jump up. She comes when called. She pulls intermittently on leash, sometimes she is very good and other times she catches an interesting smell and pulls strongly. Bing met a few dogs through the fence and was very social. She is still a bit scared of hands coming toward her and tends to cower, so let sniff before petting.
12/14/24 volunteer notes: I very briefly met Bing last week and she was presenting in a way that she seemed very timid and nervous. I took Bing out today for a dog meet and she was the complete opposite. Bing came right up to the front for the kennel and jumped up waiting to be leashed. I leashed Bing and we headed right outside. Bing might be a on the smaller side but she is muscular and strong! Bing was patient while we waiting for her dog meet friend to come out. Bing solicited some attention, accepted pets and even gave me a kiss. Bing was excited to see who would come out the gate. Bing seems very dog friendly. She had a good dog meet. She’s very bouncy and wiggly! Bing returned to the kennel with no problem.
Per Volunteer 12/6/24:
Super fearful gal! The behavior team asked for help watching her while they went and handled an urgent situation. I entered the room and tossed hot dogs her way and sat down on a bench away from her. She came and sniffed me out for a minute then went to the other side of the room. Not interested in toys or treats at first, just sniffing and panting. Eventually went and found all the hot dog pieces that I had dropped and seemed more comfortable with me. When the behavior team came back in she seemed to stay closer to me and find comfort from me with strangers. Poor girl- no reactivity just super scared!

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Bing was on the backside of her kennel for cleaning. She was laying down with wide, scared eyes and a trembling body. When the handler opened the door she flinched hard and fled to the back corner and trembled harder. The handler crouched down and turned her body to the side and let Bing approach on her own time. After a minute or two she came up and sniffed, but flinched away at any noise or movement. She had wide eyes and flinched when the handler tried to reach for her, so she took things extra slow. Bing would run away from the leash every time she saw it so the handler hid it and used baby talk to coax her to the front again. The handler was able to quickly lasso her, and once secured she came out slowly.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, fearful
HANDLING:
Once in the room Bing was very fearful and kept her distance from both handlers. She would give low wags in appeasement, but turn her head away every time she was reached for. We gave her a lot of time and space and eventually she started taking high value foods like hot dogs and chicken. However, whenever we reached for her or touched her, she would flinch dramatically and head whip with a tight mouth and hard eyes. She did not allow us to touch or handle her at all. She tried to be brave and come up for sniffs here and there, but would retreat whenever we moved even slightly. Unfortunately, Bing is going to need a lot of time and patience to come out of her shell and start trusting.
PLAY:
Too fearful
TOYS:
Perked up a squeaky toy but when I tried to engage with her she ran away
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced Blues
