If you are a dog lover in Humboldt County, you may already have heard about Cream Puff, missing in Southern Humboldt since July. Cream Puff was a resident of the Humboldt County Animal Shelter for over a year. He was loved by the volunteers, who rejoiced when he was finally adopted. Within 48 hours, however, Cream Puff had escaped from his new home and was lost in the hills. Our intrepid volunteers drove down again and again, checking out sightings, chasing all leads, and shouting “Cream Puff” at the top of their lungs through the hills of Whitethorn, Myers Flat, Weott, Salmon Creek, and everything in between. They brought his dog friends from the shelter to aid in the search. They carried rotisserie chickens, hamburgers, and squeaky toys. They camped out in their cars and cooked bacon on site to lure him. They made a lot of foxes very happy, but saw no Puff. Eventually, they learned that Cream Puff had been returning to one property in Salmon Creek. Though he was being fed regularly, he was still scared, and kept running away before anyone could grab his collar. At this point, one of our superhero volunteers took her efforts to the next level and managed to trap Cream Puff and bring him home!
Cream Puff is now staying with a volunteer in Arcata, but it is only temporary placement. We are looking for a longer-term foster or an adopter for this brave boy. According to the volunteer: “Cream Puff is so grateful to have shelter and food and affection! He greets me with a happy smile and excited wag every time I see him. He has been receiving visits from all his volunteer friends and is absolutely thrilled to see them!” Cream Puff is house trained and is very attentive. He can be shy when meeting new people, but warms up quickly. He is friendly with other dogs and could do well in a multiple dog household.

We have an adoption application and require an home visit and references. Our adoption fee for dogs is $200 which covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, and other medical treatment. This fee can be negotiated depending on circumstances.

Redwood Pals Rescue was formed to keep the euthanasia rate low at our local county shelter which is a kill facility. We are an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to support rescue and adoption efforts of animals that are at risk in the Humboldt County Animal Shelter.
Some of the things we do:
* rescue animals in danger of being euthanized at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter
* place rescued animals into permanent adoptive homes;
* facilitate transportation of rescue animals to out-of-area rescue organizations, fosterers, and adoptive homes;
* train/rehabilitate rescue animals to facilitate their placement into permanent adoptive homes;
* to provide temporary foster of shelter animals with medical needs to facilitate their placement into permanent adoptive homes;
* provide educational outreach to promote the adoption of shelter and rescue animals as pets;
* improve the quality of life for animals at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter;
* encourage and facilitate proper veterinary care including vaccinations, spaying and neutering;
We always need: Donations! which can be sent to our P.O. Box or through Razoo. Fosters! We do not have a shelter of our own but instead rely on kennel space for our rescue dogs at the shelter (when it isn't full) or with our network of foster homes. We sometimes have to emergency board dogs to save their lives. We would rather have them in a foster home. Volunteers! if you are interested in volunteering let us know. We are a small group and could always use more help.
