My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

You MUST submit a Best Friend Pet Adoption application to be considered for Lucy. The  application and additional information can be found at bfpa.org.

FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Meet one of the Charlie Brown Puppies. Lucy had her first vet exam and vaccines on 12/3. She weights  8lbs 8oz and is 8 weeks old. She may be a lab/boxer mix. Lucy is ready to find her forever home and wondered if she could come and live with you? We are accepting applications now for this sweetie.

She is just as cute as can be and has such a funny, adorable personality! She’s bouncy and playful.  We think she will learn very quickly with good training. She’s responsive and bright. Both she and her sibling Schroeder are coming when called.  They are making progress with potty training, using the puppy pads!

Lucy also LOVES people and cuddling/sleeping in your arms. Heart-melting, soulful eyes and the cutest wrinkles. She loves playing with Schroeder and the fosters older dog. She will “talk back” to the older dog... like she’s a big girl, too! Woof!

Puppies this young may not be appropriate for very young children since they will  play bite and nibble on hands and feet when given the opportunity.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Lucy had a rough beginning to life.  She along with her 5 siblings and momma were brought into a rural shelter when they were only 2 weeks old.  The momma dog was in such poor health, she had to sadly be euthanized. A rescue group took the puppies and bottle fed them until they could were old enough to move into Best Friend Pet Adoption.  They are all in loving foster homes now and are looking forward to a much better life now.    Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.

ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Ideally you live no further than a 30-mile radius from the Triangle area of North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We may consider adoptions that are within an hours drive IF the adopter is willing to come to the Raleigh/Cary area for all medical care until Lucy is spayed at around 6 months of age.   We prefer to adopt young puppies to people who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Puppies can be vocal when left alone and shared walls are sometimes an issue.  Any children in the home under 6 years old should have experience living with a dog in their home.

NOTE:  Since Lucy has only had one vaccine, she is still susceptible to diseases. She cannot live in any multifamily dwelling without her own dedicated yard.  Any adopter must have their own yard and must keep Lucy only in their home and yard until the second vaccine in early January. She cannot travel over the holiday season.    NTERESTED IN ADOPTING LUCY? Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptions require submission of an application which is processed and and must be approved by our adoption coordinator. Potential adopters then take the animal on a trial (minimum of 2 weeks) before the adoption is finalized. This helps to ensure a good fit between the adopting family and the animal. All animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and microchipped before the adoption can be finalized. Adoption fee is $225 for dogs, $115 for cats.

Pets can be met during our adoption events (mostly on Saturdays) or by arrangements with the foster family.

More about this rescue

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding.

Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.

Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative.

The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.

Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed thousands of cats and dogs into their forever homes.

BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.

BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.
