My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

What kind of home would be best for me? Tommy is a special boy who came to us as a breeder release, and he’s now looking for a dedicated adopter who can offer him the loving forever home he deserves. Like many breeder release dogs, Tommy is still learning about the world around him, and he’ll need a patient and understanding family to help him grow into the social dog he’s meant to be.

Tommy is still discovering the world and doesn’t have the life or social skills that many dogs learn early on. He’s shy and uncertain around people, but with time and patience, he’s learning to trust. Although Tommy can be a sweet and affectionate guy once he feels comfortable, it will take time to build that bond.

Tommy needs a home where he can be the only dog. He’s not a fan of sharing his space with other dogs and prefers to be the sole canine companion. He’d do well in a home with a single person or couple. He is really not a dog that wants to live with children or have young children (i.e. grandchildren) visit. A calm and quiet environment will help Tommy feel more at ease.

Because Tommy is still learning how to interact with people and other dogs, he needs to be in a home where someone is home most of the time. He’s a big guy who will thrive in a house with a fenced-in yard, where he can explore and play safely. While Tommy can be social with people, he’s very much an introvert when it comes to other dogs—he’s selective about his canine friends and prefers to keep to himself. For this reason, trips to the dog park are not recommended.

What is my personality like? Tommy is a work in progress, still under development. He can be a bit ornery and moody, especially when it comes to his boundaries – particularly around his likes and dislikes. That said, he also has a soft side and can be like a dog that leans into you for affection, seeking out pets and always wanting to be near you.

Because Tommy is a work in progress, he’ll need an adopter who is committed to spending time with him and providing consistent guidance. Patience, kindness, and love will be key as Tommy continues to open up and learn to be a more confident dog.

Tommy will need a lot of one-on-one time and training. His new family should be prepared to work with him on leash manners, basic commands, and ongoing socialization. He enjoys going for walks, and regular outings will not only help him build trust but also strengthen the bond between you.

Tommy is a work in progress. He can be a bit ornery and moody, especially when it comes to his boundaries—he knows what he likes and what he doesn’t. However, once he trusts you, he’ll lean into you for affection and enjoy being close to you. He loves toys, and they’re a great way to brighten his mood and help him feel more comfortable.

Tommy’s ideal adopter is someone who understands that building trust takes time and is committed to helping him become the loyal, loving companion he has the potential to be. If you’re looking for a dog who needs a little extra TLC and are ready to put in the time and effort, Tommy could be your perfect match. Tommy needs a hero; can you be his Wonder Woman or his Superman!

How do I act when I first meet new people? Tommy is approachable, but he tends to keep his emotions under wraps when meeting new people. He enjoys affection and is happy to receive pets, though he may not show a lot of enthusiasm right away.

Other tips and tidbits: Tommy was born on 11/10/2016.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
