My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NAME: Picasso Shakespeare
BREED: Labrador Retriever/Mixed Breed (Medium)
MALE: Neutered
AGE: ~9 months (DOB 03/03/2024)
WEIGHT: 28lbs

POSITIVE TRAITS: Not excessively energetic; is playful, will get zoomies outdoors. Would not require walks/daily walks, adequate and ample paytime/stimulation would suffice.

NEEDS & LIMITS: Very curious and is A CHEWER. Still very much a puppy and currently requires supervision and structure.

FUN FACTS: Loves to have nightly screeching sessions by himself. Floor, bed, dog bed-doesn't matter, he will thrash about, legs flailing in the air and screech his heart out.

PERSONALITY: Chill, playful, curious. Picks up when other dogs are not interested in playtime. Becomes sad and whiny when cats won't play with him.

GOOD WITH CATS: Indoors. Outside he will chase or whine/bark at them, along with other critters (squirrels, birds, etc.)

GOOD WITH DOGS: All sizes

GOOD WITH KIDS: Unknown

POTTY TRAINED: wears belly bands well for training

CRATE TRAINED: sleeps and eats in crate.

FAVORITE TOYS: long toys that can be shaken and Jouhound Rip Roarin Tough Toys

Living on streets with mum and four siblings; he and one sibling survived. Picasso was being picked on/attacked by other dogs including his own mum and brother and so he began breaking into foster's yard to seek safety and shelter and food (his ribs had begun to protrude). For the first four days of becoming a GDR dog he crashed in his crate, sleeping most of the time, relieved to be safe and fed and cared for.
Quiet dog that occasionally barks.
Currently has three senior foster siblings, one 3-legged and another with hip dysplasia; he has not had any issue with being too rough with them or knocking into them.

Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX)

Additional adoption info

Adoption application required. Adoption Fee is $200-350 local (Local is state of Texas) $500-800 for out of state adoptions (includes transport fees).. The higher prices for Purebred and/or highly desirable pets. Adoption application, adoption contract, return/foster agreement if dog doesn't work out in home.

We work hard to place dogs in the right homes, if the adoption does not work out and we have room to take the dog back into the rescue, we will. However, the sheer number of needy animals in Bexar county TX +usually means we become full quickly after the dog is adopted. So, in those cases we will post the animal, help the adopter screen applicants and help facilitate finding another home for the dog.

We are primarily foster based rescue, and meet and greets are done after an application is approved by our counselors. The foster and adopter will arrange the meeting if both local to each other.
