My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petrie AKA Peet is a busy, happy and athletic Yorkshire Terrier mix that came to Murci's Mission for additional rehabilitation after arriving to our rescue partners SCRAPS with trauma to the tail and back likely caused by a vehicle strike. Petrie has an estimated birthdate of 11/20/2020.

Petrie may only be about 10lbs, but he packs a punch! He is ready for action at all times and can certainly hang with the big dogs. He would love a family that is at least semi active or interested in doing some entry level sports with him like rally, scentwork, barnhunt, or agility. He came to Murci's Mission already fully loaded with an arsenal of sweet tricks, and we are certain he would love to put his energy and smarts to good use and learn even more cool skills.

It is worth noting that smart and capable dogs are a double edged sword, and Peet is no exception. He can be loud in his crate if he's bored and underestimated, and the less engaging his day has been, the saucier he can be with the cats and other dogs. He means no malice, but he does like to see if he can get a rise out of everybody. He would be fine with kids who could manage to show mutual respect and give him personal space as needed.

Peet is good in the car, and walks well on lead but will be reactive to passing vehicles and will sometimes bark at other animals, but a spray bottle correction will remind him to mind his manners. He is house trained but may pee inside near the door if he's been holding it for too long.

His tail is nearly fully recovered, and the pain and instability in his back resulting from his injuries has subsided, and he is ready to rock on into a forever family that is excited to work with a big personality in a tiny package.

Petrie comes neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and dewormed. His adoption fee is $200 and includes his leash, collar, ID tag, food sample, and medical records. To be considered to adopt, please begin by visiting www.murcismission.org and sending in an application.

More about this rescue

From the day we could talk we told our pets more than we ever told our parents. We took the long route to see the kitty in the window down the street. We stopped even when we were late to pet the dog. We grew up and we saw what the world does to those who can't defend themselves. We are here to change that.

Ethical rescue, including fully vetting every animal and carefully placing them all into homes matched to their physical and mental needs is what we do.

Respecting all life, both animal and human, while retaining an underlying goal of keeping animals in their homes. and fostering a sense of community between local shelters and rescues is how we do it.
