Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
My name is Gage, and I'm a 3 1/2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a handsome brown and white coat. I'm a sturdy fellow, weighing 72 pounds. I've been neutered and vaccinated.
I'm potty, crate, and leash trained. I get excited on walks and can pull on the leash at times but have been working on this. I have a strong prey drive. If I spot a cat or a small animal, my instincts kick in. But don't worry, I respond well to corrections and am otherwise a perfect gentleman. I'm very smart and pick up new things quickly. I'll even bark to let you know when it's time for a bathroom break.
I absolutely adore head and butt scratches, and I'm quite the love bug. I enjoy sitting in laps, getting petted, and just chilling on the couch with my humans. I have this adorable habit of scooting up against you for pets, and I'm known to lean in for some extra love. I know basic commands like sit and shake, and I'm always eager to learn more. I do have a habit of chewing, so I'd benefit from some additional training to refine my manners. I love treats, bones, peanut butter, rope toys, and anything that's hard, chewable, and safe for dogs.
My past is a bit of a mystery. You might notice some scars on me, and one of my ears looks like it's been through a lot. We don’t know if I may have been used as a bait dog or what I have been through as a stray surviving on the streets. I do have some behaviors that may be a result of my unknown past. I do guard my food, toys, and bones, so I'd fit best in a home with older children who understand the importance of giving me space during meals and playtime. I tend to eat quickly, so a slow feeder would be a great idea for me. I thrive as the only pet or with dogs who are more on the submissive side and won't challenge me. Despite my past, I am rather gentle at times and enjoy sweet moments like holding your hand with my paw. I'm looking forward to a brighter future with a family who can be patient with me and show me love.
I am up to date on vaccines, neutered and heartworm negative. Currently, I'm in Burkesville, Kentucky, but for the right home, I can be transported to nearby states. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who's eager to start a new chapter, I'm your boy. Fill out an application today!
