My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

TWEED hails from the White Sands Community in Northern Ontario and he came south with his brother (Tartan) to find a loving family. He’s had his first 2 sets of vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no knowledge on his parents so we don’t know what other breeds are mixed in him but there’s definitely something other than a Shepherd. We also have no idea on the size he’ll grow to be as the weight we have noted is just a guess. He’s a loving, gentle boy who’s curious about everything around him. He’s laid back and very easy going and the more reserved one of the two brothers.
TWEED’s crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and will also take naps in it during the day. He’s an energetic guy who loves to run around and chase his brother especially if has a toy in his mouth. He’ll play for hours with his toys and chase balls around the floor. He loves his treats and has been easy to do some training with them too. He should do well with another dog in the home as he has met a few and got along with them all.
TWEED would like an active family who’ll take him on big walks, hikes and seeing as he travels well in a car, he’d always be up for an adventure or two. He hasn’t met a cat but if there’s a cat savvy dog in the home then he should do well with them provided a slow, monitored introduction is done and while the dog is leashed. Children should be aged 6 and up and be loving, gentle and caring towards animals. He has to have fenced yard to keep him safe and he can safely run around and play.
Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training.
His neuter is included in the adoption fee and as per our rescue agreement, it has to be done before he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs, whichever comes first. The neuter can be done at your own vets office but it still has to be within our age/weight requirements.
If TWEED sounds like he’d fit into your home then please submit an adoption application to meet him.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
