My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Copper was found roaming the hills with his brother Snickerdoodle. He is a sweet guy who looks to people for affection. He recently had a foster sleepover and here is what he had to say about it:

`I had a great time during my 2-night field trip. I wasn’t sure how to get into a car, so I needed a little boost to get in, but once I was buckled in, everything was fine. I took a little nap in the car and didn’t have any problems with riding. I made friends with a lot of people during my stay – my new friends took me to church where I met people of all ages, including a little human who was walking and was even shorter than me. I also took several walks in my new neighborhood. There were so many things to see and smell! When I went a little too fast, the thing on my neck would tug me, and I would stop right away and wait for my friends to catch up. I ate and slept well, too. I didn’t really like the dry food, but when it had a little gravy, it tasted a lot better, and I ate the whole thing. I was kind of scared about going into the crate, but once I ate my meals inside of it, it seemed like a safe place. I was so tired that I slept all night inside of it. I enjoyed sniffing around my friends’ backyard and taking a nap on the patio in the afternoon. They petted me, gave me belly rubs, and gave me lots of treats and toys!`

Copper is sweet, affectionate, and easy to love. We had no accidents in the house and would we think he would be easy to crate train. He travels well and is learning to walk on a leash. He doesn’t know any commands (sit, down, come), but he seems anxious to please. He doesn’t pull on a leash and responds to direction. He’s easy to handle and likes physical contact – he let us touch his paws, tail, and ears. He is a little scared when first meeting new people, and he startles to loud sounds, but he warms up and settles back down quickly. He didn’t have much interaction with other animals while with us, other than passing dogs on the other side of the street when walking. (It didn’t bother him when they barked at him.)
He acted like he had never seen a television before. It frightened him at first, but after a bit of comforting he laid back down and relaxed.

Copper would do well in a house where he gets a lot of affection. He will need people who will patiently introduce him to new things and assure him that he is safe and loved.
