My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

World, you are not ready for our bestie Hazel! She is a 2 year old spayed female brown & white tiger kitty, and she has the biggest personality! You see, our buddy Hazel wasn`t so open to friendship when she first came in. She didn`t know us, we didn`t know her, she had no idea what an animal shelter was, and she acted how she thought she had to to keep herself safe. However, as time passed, she became more and more open to human friendship. Before we knew it, this cutie was rolling around, chirping to be pat & loved up on! The journey of Hazel has been a beautiful one to watch, and we are so proud of the kitty she has become.

Now, as far as Hazel has come, this is not to say she is a fool-proof kitty now. She still has her moments of getting overstimulated (too many pats, lots of noise happening, moving too fast in her enclosure) and she can forget herself and give you a smack or a nip. She is rather good at showing signs that she is getting over threshold, like puffing up & swishing her tail, stiffening her body, lowering her head, taking a step away from you, flattening her ears, these things are her way of saying `hey, man, I`m not feeling this right now!`.

Due to these personality traits, children are not a good match for Hazel. She shows gentle interest in friendly cats that have passed by her, so we think she may be able to live with another friendly cat after a proper, very slow introduction. She may even get along with a dog that won`t harass her, of course after a proper slow introduction. Feeling brave? Come on down & ask to meet our bestie Hazel!

Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process so you`re prepared to adopt & stop by the shelter with the required information to take home this pet.

Additional adoption info

You must be 18 years or older to adopt an animal. A valid ID is required.

If you own your own home, please provide proof of home-ownership; a mortgage receipt, tax bill, water bill or deed will suffice.

If you rent, please bring your lease which states the type of pet you are interested in and that it is accepted or the name and phone of your landlord so we can verify the pet is allowed. Inquire with your landlord about any size or breed restrictions.

Please check with your home owner’s insurance company or landlord to find out if they have any restrictions on the breed(s) of dog they cover. Common breeds that may not be covered include: Pit Bulls, Doberman Pinschers, Rottweilers and German Shepherds.

For the health and safety of the pet you are interested in adopting and your existing pets, we ask that you provide proof of current vaccinations and spay/neuter status for pets in your home. (We may be able to call your veterinarian if you do not have a copy available.)

A new pet is a family decision and we ask that all members of your family meet the pet and agree on the suitability for your household.

If you already have a dog(s) in your home please bring the dog(s) with you to meet the dog you are considering to see if they are compatible.

Complete an adoption application and talk with a staff member for more information about the animal you are considering.
