Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
River is a stunning female German Shepherd who made her way to us from one of our local rural shelter partners. She was found after she and her puppies (along with a male husky) had been dumped into the river and when rescuers found her, she was swimming trying to get all of the puppies back safely on the shore. Her puppies were all already safe with either other rescue groups or with adoptive families when we pulled mama River into the Happy Tails Canine Rescue family! (Her foster mom actually saw her in the background of the photo we saw of Hershey and zoomed in before asking "Can we get more details on that shepherd girl in the background?").
River is about 1-2 years old and is described as her foster mom as being "playful, energetic, and an overall smart, curious, and happy girl". She absolutely ADORES her foster mom's son and runs straight to his bedroom every morning to wake him up. In the week she has been in her foster home since being pulled from the shelter, River has already learned sit and lay down and has begun to work on learning how to shake. What an incredibly smart and well-behaved girl! She has also taken very quickly to potty-training and crate-training as well. River adores snuggling next to her foster family on the couch. She currently lives in a foster home with a senior female dog and gets along well with her. River is a combination of athletic and a cuddle buddy, enjoying getting her zoomies out with a run in the fenced in backyard in the morning and then helping her foster mom work by lying in her dog bed and keeping her company in her home office. Her foster mom reports that she has good recall for a rescue dog and takes corrections from humans and other dogs well.
River is set to be spayed on December 28th, is up to date on all vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. She is more than ready to find a forever home of her own for the upcoming holidays! Run to apply now for River if she seems like the perfect forever family member that you have been searching for!

A home check may be performed when taking the pet home. This is up to the discretion of the rescue founder and may be performed upon her decision. This step will ensure our animals are going into the best possible homes and will never be treated as less than a best friend and companion ever again. We are dedicated to the best possible fit for each animal that comes into our care.

We are 100% foster and volunteer run. Therefore, the first step in meeting one of our adoptable pets will be to submit an adoption application by following the link posted above to either our website or directly to our adoption application. Once an adoption application has been approved, we can set up a meet and greet with the applicant and the animal the applicant is interested in. Please allow 24-72 business hours to receive an answer back about your application, as all of our volunteers and fosters have additional jobs outside of the rescue and use their spare time to provide care to these animals in our program.
Adoption events can also be found posted on our Facebook and Instagram pages located under the name "Happy Tails Canine Rescue". These events are open to the public and do not require an adoption application in advance to meet any of our pets that will be attending.
