Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The process for adopting an animal may take up to an hour or longer in order to get to know and understand the animal you are bringing into your home for life. The Sonoma Humane Society prides itself on successful adoption rates because of the time we spend with you and your prospective pet upfront. First you must decide what type of animal is "right" for you. Are you more of a dog or a cat person or are you interested in a smaller animal like a rabbit, guinea pig or pocket pet? You must have a clear understanding of yourself, your family and your lifestyle to answer this question correctly. Many people need several visits before they can make the decision to adopt and we encourage you to take all the time you need to make your new relationship permanent.

Adoption Fees

Our animals receive the highest quality of medical care, diets, training and socialization to become a permanent part of your home. Our adoption fees do not cover the expenses for each animal that enters our facility. Thanks to donations from the community, we are able to offer more than any other shelter in the County. Just look at all of the quality care that each and every animal receives here in order to prepare them for a lifelong home with you.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Sonoma County has a long and proud history of leading the fight to end overpopulation and rescue, rehabilitate and place thousands of animals into loving homes. Founded in 1931, we are non-profit, charitable organization funded solely with donations from individuals, businesses and foundations.
Our Mission
The mission of Humane Society of Sonoma County is to:
* prevent cruelty to animals
* advance their welfare and protection
* encourage the relationship between people and animals
* and improve the quality of life for both

Life-oriented

Animals at the Humane Society of Sonoma County are cared for until they find a new home, including those that are sick or injured, those that may need behavior training or simply those that need the gift of time. Adoptable animals are never euthanized due to age or lack of space.

People Services

In addition to our core mission of rescuing and rehabilitating animals, the Humane Society of Sonoma County also serves thousands of people in our community. Each and every animal we care for, in turn provides care and companionship to many people. Through education and special assistance programs for children, teens, adults and senior citizens, we strive to teach, nurture and evolve the relationship between animals and people.
