My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Eden is an incredibly smart and energetic dog who thrives in a structured environment. She enjoys regular walks, playing fetch, and working for toys or treats. In the home, she can be very sweet and affectionate, often cuddling up with her person for some quiet, relaxing moments. She is potty-trained, has good leash manners, and can be trusted in a crate for short periods. She also gets along well with other dogs of similar size and enjoys their company.

Eden has a few behavioral challenges that will require ongoing training and patience from her adopter. She can experience moments of high arousal, particularly during play, heavy petting, or walks, which may lead to behaviors such as jumping, mouthing, and pulling on the leash. Eden also has "stranger danger," meaning she can react fearfully to unfamiliar people by barking, growling, or snapping. This reaction is rooted in fear rather than aggression, and with slow introductions and positive reinforcement, she can learn to feel more comfortable around new people.

She needs a patient, understanding adopter who can manage these situations by providing calm guidance and helping her stay relaxed and redirected during high-stress moments.

How to Adopt:

Take your time getting to know the animal you wish to adopt. The pet you choose should be your pet for the rest of its life, so spend the time necessary to make the right choice. Our staff is happy to assist you in taking a dog out of the kennels or socializing with a cat in the cat room. We encourage each person in your household to get acquainted with an animal before it becomes a new member of your family. We also suggest you bring your present pets in for an introduction to the new animal to form some ideas about their compatibility. Our shelter is open Tuesday through Friday, 12-5 pm and Saturdays from 10 am-5 pm. In order to complete the adoption process, it is necessary to begin adoptions by 4:30pm.

More about this shelter

Our mission is to provide animals with loving care and lasting homes, to partner with communities striving to do the same, and to advance our no-kill legacy.

We accomplish our mission by transferring cats and dogs to our facilities from public shelters in the Bay Area and beyond when they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations.

Pets In Need has shelters in Redwood City and Palo Alto. We have owned and operated our Redwood City shelter since 1993, and in 2019 we began operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter in partnership with the City of Palo Alto.

Pets In Need is now operating the Palo Alto Animal Shelter. The City of Palo Alto still provides Animal Control Services for the cities of Palo Alto, Los Altos, & Los Altos Hills, CA
