Pleased to Meet You! My name is Astro, and I’m a very good boy who will charm you with my charming smile and bright energy. I’m super smart and sweet, a gentle giant who loves to play fetch and chase tennis balls. I’m well trained, too. I am housetrained, and I know lots of commands like sit, shake and fetch. I am very motivated for treats so there’s no end to what I can learn. I would love to spend time playing with you and then relaxing at home with a chew toy. Come visit me soon. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is an independent, local, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and recognized by Charity Navigator as a Four Star Charity. Operating the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, an open-admission facility and Alexandria’s only animal shelter, the League provides care for more than 3,500 animals every year, including strays, lost pets, local wildlife, rescue animals, and pets surrendered by their owners. Serving the community since 1946, the League has contracted with the City of Alexandria to provide animal care, control, and sheltering services since 1989. The AWLA is committed to ending animal homelessness, promoting animal welfare, and serving as an educational resource for the community.
