Melvin is a five-year-old domestic long hair cat, with a gray and white tuxedo coat. My late wife and I adopted him when he was three months old.
As a kitten he was affectionate and playful, both toward the other cats and toward us. But for some reason that we could ever understand, as he matured into an adult cat he lost his socialization with us, particularly with me. He has always continued to get along well with the other cats.
Following the death of my wife, I have moved into a new home to be closer to my son and daughter-in-law. I moved the other cats, but Melvin was basically alone in a mostly empty house for several weeks—I was there every day to give him food, water, and clean litter. I have now moved Melvin into my new house with the other cats. I’m making progress with resocializing him to me, but he’s been through a hard time.
I believe that in a new home he would get along well with new people and bond with them, and he would have the happy home that he should.
