Oakley is a 40 pound, 11.5 year old Border Collie mix who ended up at a kill shelter when her owner died. It is quite apparent that she was a beloved family member.
Oakley has a sweet personality and is in excellent health. She surprised us by leaping a few feet in the air with excitement for treats and to greet her foster parent when they came home. She can be a little reserved for a moment with new people but does enjoys meeting them. She makes dog friends easily.
Oakley is eager to please and is fully housetrained. She knows basic commands including “spin” and will do almost anything for a treat. She requests a home that allows her on the couch and bed, where she lays very quietly.
Oakley’s usual routine is a morning outing and feed and an evening feed. Her foster parent works an 8 hour day and a dogsitter takes her out mid-day. Oakley has the run of the house during this time. Her canine friend, the foster parent’s permanent dog is crated during the day and they romp in the yard, playing chase in the evenings.
Oakley would do best with a fenced yard and daily walks. We have not observed her around children or cats though I suspect she’d enjoy polite children.
Oakley is being fostered in the Kansas City, MO area.
