Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
It takes one tough cookie to survive on the streets of Chicago alone. Rain. Cold. Scavenging for food. Avoiding trappers at all cost, because you don't know what their intentions are. Mara was finally captured after at least six months as a stray. Good news! She is chipped! Bad news, or more good news depending how you look at it, her owner didn't want her back. Mara is understandably skittish; but she's warm, she's safe, and she doesn't haven't to worry about where is next meal is coming from. Patience, love, and consistency will help show Mara that most people are good. We are hoping to find a new loving home for Mara where she'll never want to run away from, where her family will give her everything she's been missing in her life. Mara's injuries tell us she might have been hit by a car, we aren't sure; but she definitely had a hard time out on the streets. No more girlfriend, no more. Time to heal Mara's body and soul.
Came in as a chipped stray on 11/7/24
Adoptions are walk-in 12-6 daily at 2741 S. Western Ave. Chicago, IL
The building is open 12-7 daily and adoptions end one hour before closing. All visitors 18 and older must have a government issued ID.
All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog to dog meet and greets for your current dog to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up to date rabies vaccination for your dog or dogs.
Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.
