Dustin is quite possibly our most loving and affectionate cat. He is definitely a favorite among all of the volunteers. Dustin showed up in our parking lot one day and was clearly not a feral cat. He would allow us to pick him up and hold him like a baby. We quickly brought him inside and soon learned that he has FeLV. Although cats can live happy, healthy lives with this diagnosis it is best for them to either be the only cat in the home or to live with another cat who already has it. All PAWS cats and dogs are current on the vaccinations appropriate for their age. Those who are confirmed over 4 months old or older will have their rabies vaccinations. Age permitting, dogs/puppies are tested for heartworm disease. Cats/kittens are tested (and are negative) for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). All are treated with flea/tick prevention and given internal parasite preventative on a regular basis. All are microchipped (for their safety and the adopter's peace of mind) as part of the adoption fee.
