Meet the Pet
This helps Just Giant Rescue Inc - Illinois Chapter with pet care costs.
Hi, I am Jackson and am new to the rescue. I am currently decompressing and getting used to my foster family. Check back as my foster family learns more about me!
Jackson came to his foster home on 12/1/2024. While it has only been a couple days, here's what we can say about Jackson so far. He is a very sweet, loving, playful, and curious boy. He loves to play with toys, but gets bored easily. He does indicate a need to go outside and hasn't had any accidents inside yet, but he is a puppy so I keep a very close eye on him.
Jackson will put anything he can in his mouth, just like any other puppy. Trying to take something out of his mouth he shouldn't have is like wrestling an alligator, but a sweet alligator. While he does try to get away, Jackson is learning that if I want to take something out of his mouth, I will.
Jackson so desperately wants to play with the two resident dogs (4 yo Mastiff and 6 month Cane Corso), but so far he has only visited with his foster brothers through a gate. Puppies don't always know what's best so I will be keeping them apart for the duration of the decompression period. When they finally meet, I will update his progress.
During the compression period, I walk fosters in my front yard. I want them to feel comfortable while doing their business. Jackson walks well on a leash, but will pull if he wants to see something or introduce himself to a squirrel.
Jackson seems to have formed a strong bond with foster mom. While I love the attention, I try to spend time out of his sight so he learns being alone or with other family members is okay too. When meeting new people (unavoidable when walking a dog in your front yard), Jackson is excited, but hesitant at the same time. However, he's not afraid to bark to let people know he's in charge. He does get startled by loud noises and has barked at my neighbor's Christmas decorations.
Jackson does need to work on his manners. He's still a puppy so he's impulsive and jumps on people when he gets excited. He tends to play bite and loves to table/counter surf. We are working on this.
Due to Jackson's young age and limited training, the perfect adopter will have a fenced back yard where Jackson can be free to run and play without getting loose. He gets bored easily so he needs a variety of toys (squeeky, cloth, puzzle, treat style). He needs someone who is not afraid to set and enforce boundaries as well as someone who is willing to put in the work needed to train him on how to be a well mannered member of the pack. Jackson's adopter will be very lucky to have this sweet boy as part of the family.
