My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Milkshake!

Her many internet fans named her after the famous song because she "brings all the boys to the yard". Looking at Milkshake today we would describe her as funny, curious, sweet, smart, loving, and quirky. What you can't see at first glance is how hard she has worked to get here and how much progress she has made.

She came to her foster mother's porch hungry, sick, and very pregnant. She was downright terrified of humans, but she knew she needed help. Despite her initial apprehension of people, Milkshake settled into her new home and quickly gave birth to five healthy, beautiful babies. Due to her gorgeous, unique calico cream coat each of her babies came out a totally different color! She tended to and loved each kitten equally, making sure everyone was happy and healthy, even though she was not felling well herself.

When the kittens were 3 weeks old, Milkshake's foster mom woke to find Shake army crawling across the enclosure to feed her kittens. Unable to stand, she was using the last of her energy to feed her babies. Her foster mom rushed her to the hospital where the vets took immediate care of Milkshake. It turned out that she was succumbing to a life threatening infection worsened by her FIV. She was prescribed the medications she needed to pull through, but unfortunately it meant she could no longer nurse her kittens. Returning home to an enclosure without her babies devastated her. Her kittens were her pride and joy. She was sick and depressed, but over the following weeks she fought hard to recover. She underwent emergency surgery for her mastitis and finished her rounds of antibiotics.

Eventually, Milkshake finally got her first piece of good news since being rescued - a clean bill of health. She was able to start her vaccines and was finally feeling well enough to appreciate what being a house cat really means.

She found joy in using her cat tree for naps and slowly learned how to play with her toys. Milkshake is still learning how to be a house cat and is apprehensive when it comes to humans, but she makes progress everyday. Currently, she loves to sit in the windows and watch the birds, play with a good ball or mouse, get pets with her favorite shower brush, or curl up in her favorite bed. She is still trying to figure out how to play with toys on sticks and how to eat a Churu treat, but she's practicing all the time. Shake loves to zoom around when she's feeling playful and safe. She is looking for a calm, patient household where she can grow and thrive into the wonderful, sweet house cat she is. Shake requires a little extra love and patience. She lived on the streets, so she doesn't trust people right away. Milkshake has had a very rough start in life and hopes to spend the rest of it in a loving home with people who will meet her where she is and work with her to build the trusting and loving relationship that she craves.

Milkshake's adoption donation has already been paid. It included includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea treatment, Felv/FIV testing, microchip, and spay.
