My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Location: MD

Hi, my name is River! I’m a  1.5 -yr old, 3 5   lb triple S  (sweet, smart, and sensitive) female ACD looking for an active person to unlock my full potential I’m  spayed , microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives —ready for my forever home!

Previously, I lived in a rural home with kids of all ages. Unfortunately, however, the family was so busy and on the go that they didn’t have enough time for me. I was crated for most of the day and night . When  I did manage to escape, I ran and ran as far as I could  because there was no fence on the property !  I always returned for my food  though .   Luckily  a foster home  on a farm  with lots of fenced yard and pasture took me in, complete with an energetic, playful puppy.  I play and run  with her constantly  and take long daily leash walks  with the 4 resident ACDs , which has allowed  me  to harness  my pent-up energy.   I even get along  well  with the grumpy senior dogs and respect their space. I’m feeling more and  more secure  in my foster home every day , and my recall is improving . Did you know that when  I come to my  foster dad it  means  I get   a party  and treats ?!?   I’m very affectionate and love to snuggle with him at the end of the day.

I need a fenced property with room to run  and preferably a playful canine buddy, but no cats please! I’m food motivated, eager to learn, and have already master ed  a few basic manners.   I love to ride in my foster dad’s truck, and I’m already housetrained.  If I could find a person who runs, cycles, or hikes  with me  daily or  someone  who is interested in dog sports such as flyball or agility, that would be my dream.  I love to track while walking and would excel at  nosework  or search and rescue.  I also love the water and chasing things, and my foster dad thinks I could even be a great dock diver!

If you are looking for a  beautiful and  loving companion,  I, River, am  a perfect match for you !

River  is being fostered in Adamstown, MD (contact  her foster dad : kirkdruey@gmail.com).

More about this rescue

We are an all volunteer group that rescues Australian Cattle Dogs. Our dogs reside in foster homes until they are adopted
Every year, thousands of Australian Cattle Dogs find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. Although the reasons are diverse, the result is the same. Healthy, adoptable dogs face euthanasia in shelters.

The Australian Cattle Dog Rescue Association rescues ACDs in shelters from Maine to Georgia and gives these dogs a fresh start with a loving family. Our foster home volunteers welcome the dogs into their homes where they live as members of the family. During the time in foster care, our volunteers determine what kind of forever home will be the right one for each dog.
