Sensitive Potamus is slightly older than the rest of the cats with which he’d traveled from Afghanistan, but that just makes him more seasoned, and purrhaps more grateful. Give this quiet soul the comfort of knowing he’s safe, and he’ll gently remind you what makes a hero. The things we may take for granted—food readily available, comfy beds, gentle hands for nurturing—are all new to him, but very appreciated. Want to be the one who provides all this an more? Experienced hands at nurturing trust from tentative feline friends will go a long way in helping him feel secure. A peaceful home with with no other pets, and patient, older children will soon reap the rewards of gaining that trust. Potamus is going to love you for being his furever family!

When you come down to NSALA an associate will help you figure out what kind of animal will do best in your situation. At that point they will take out the animals you are interested in so that you may get to know them. You will have plenty of time to play and interact with your new friend in our family friendly areas designated for that purpose. When you decide you want to adopt, an associate will help you fill out an application.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies (up to 6 months) $350
Adult Dogs (over 6 months) $100
Puppy Mill Rescues $250
Small Breed & Pure Breeds (over 6 months) $250
Kittens (up to 6 months) $100
Double Kittens $150
Adult Cats (over 6 months) $50
Double Adult Cats $75

Where applicable, a $50 Spay/Neuter deposit is required for kittens, $75 for puppies.

Our Adoption Center, is open every Thursday-Sunday 12pm-8pm. On average, our shelter is home to 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Behind the scenes, the Adoption Center contains a nursery area, medical examination room and a grooming area where new admissions are health checked, vaccinated, bathed and groomed.

Visitors are reminded that adoption is a lifelong commitment. After selecting a pet, each potential adopter is thoroughly screened, ensuring each adopter recognizes the life-changing commitment a new pet can be. To date, over 1,000,000 pet owners have met our high standards and adopted a pet from North Shore Animal League America.
