Hello there! I'm Pete, an adorable 7-pound, 8-year-old Chihuahua with a unique personality, searching for a loving, patient, and dog-savvy family to call my own. My foster mom often compares me to a cat because I enjoy affection on my own terms. I'm excellent at signaling when I want some love and playtime, but I prefer minimal handling. However, I adore burrowing under a cozy blanket and snuggling next to my human during nap time—I just ask that you please try to avoid startling me with unexpected touches.
Some of my favorite activities include playing fetch with my human and basking in the sun daily. When you come home, I can be counted on to happily greet you at the door with tail wagging! While I can peacefully coexist with other friendly dogs and cats, I'm not particularly interested in playing with them. I'm a smart little guy and a quick learner. I can be left alone at home without any fuss and am doggie-door trained. Although I'm mostly potty trained, I might have the occasional accident if it's too cold outside. I prefer to graze on kibble throughout the day rather than having a set feeding time. I don't bark much and enjoy walks when I'm in the mood to wear a harness.
Given my preferences, I'll need a secure area in my new home where I can do my business without needing a leash or harness. It's essential that my new family respects my boundaries and understands how to read my body language. As time goes on and trust and confidence build, I'll want and allow more affection.
If you think you could be the perfect match for a unique and lovable companion like me, let's meet and see if we can make each other's lives a little brighter!

More about this rescue
Forever Loved Pet Sanctuary (FLPS) is the only senior-only animal rescue in Maricopa County, Arizona. Formed in 2012 as a non-profit 501[c][3] organization, the focus of FLPS is to save senior animals who are often overlooked by providing them the opportunity to thrive in a safe and caring environment. FLPS serves a public need by offering housing to a limited number of senior pets.
This safe haven, takes the burden of temporary care and housing of senior animals off of local shelters. Inevitably, local shelters resort to euthanizing these abandoned, senior animals at an alarming rate. According to a 2012 statistics report, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) euthanizes one animal every eight minutes it is open to the public. Euthanasia for senior residents is the primary option for most local shelters because they tend to focus their efforts on a high adoption model that includes younger “more adoptable” animals. FLPS works with local shelters and rescues to identify the senior animals in need and provide a streamlined process for interested men, women and families who wish to adopt.
