My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATED IN WATERLOO REGION, ON
DOB: 14 Nov 2023
Microchipped

Beetlejuice, BJ to her friends, is a delightful young cat with a bright future. She can be shy, but once you’ve won her trust, she loves with her whole heart.

BJ is one of many cats who came to TCR from an apartment with dozens and dozens of cats. Since her rescue she’s been checked out at our vet and spayed, and moved to a foster home to learn how to be a pet.

BJ is shy, but is getting braver every day. She’s learnt that furniture is much nicer to sit on, rather than hide under. She loves cuddles: purrs, wiggles, head bumps. She’ll even tolerate being picked up and held for a few moments.

BJ likes other cats but is a bit wary of making new kitty friends. In her former overcrowded home, other cats were competitors for food and space. She needed a few days to understand that her new life has enough food to go around. BJ would do well with a tolerant cat, or she could be an only cat.

BJ is comfortable with the resident senior dog. A boisterous dog may overwhelm her.

She does have a few naughty habits that she’s working on with her foster. She likes to counter-surf, so keep your kitchen tidy! She will also chew crinkly plastic, like is found on some cat toys. It’s not a big deal: her foster just picked up toys with plastic and set them out of reach. Likely counter-surfing and plastic-munching are learned behaviours from not having enough to eat. As she settles and feels more secure, hopefully she won’t feel the need.

BJ eats kibble and canned. She’s a bit flighty with food if other cats are near, so her foster has been putting her dish a few feet away from the other cats so she doesn’t feel bullied. She uses her litter box like a pro and never scratches the furniture.

Note from foster: BJ is a gem. She arrived stressed with no reason to trust any human, but with a few days was letting me stroke her. If only humans could be so forgiving.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fee is $200 per adult cat, and $250 for kittens (under 8 months old).

This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the attention they need, are spayed or neutered, and receive a rabies vaccination at the appropriate age. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. As you can imagine, these fees only begin to cover our costs; donations and ongoing fundraising efforts carry us the rest of the way!

Note:
-Senior cats (8 years or older) have an adoption fee of the adopter's choice, vs. our standard adult adoption fee of $200.
-Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $150 per cat vs. $200 per cat. Thanks for giving two loving friends a home together!
