Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Ace is barely recognizable from the matted starving mess who came to us this past week! He’s already gained over a pound just from being fed properly and looks like a new man after a good shave down and bath. He’s attention-starved too, a little nervous at first with new people but quickly bonds and opens up into a fun playful little cuddler. He’s still a puppy at heart at only 2 years old. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Ace in Northern NJ. He’s been neutered, updated on shots, had a dental cleaning and is ready for a home!
11/25: Our not-an-oldie but definitely moldy 🤢 newest rescue Ace is looking and feeling much better already! He was freaked out about the clipper and we didn’t want to stress him too much to finish shaving his legs and feet, so he will get the rest done once he’s ready to go under anesthesia for his neuter. He didn’t mind his face being scissored a bit and we were able to get the worst and moldiest mats off of his back and neck. He was matted tightly to his delicate skin causing a lot of irritation and pain😖 He’s a skeleton under the hair, only 8.5lbs and a ravenous eater and it seems to be all just starvation and not any underlying serious issue so far. He’s being slowly refed small frequent meals throughout the day to get weight on him safely.
He’s a nervous little guy, growly at first but quickly warms up and likes other small dogs. At only 2 years old, he probably never got to enjoy a proper puppyhood in his neglectful former home and he’s looking forward to finally getting that chance.
Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either in person at our adoption day or through our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adoption fees vary according to the dog's age, breed, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend in vet bill on them. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
