My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you love a dog with a good face and a few cute quirks, let me introduce you to Smokey. He is lovable, affectionate, and is guaranteed to make you laugh. My favorite thing about him is when you start to love on him (his absolute favorite thing!), he becomes a little chatterbox. It starts with a small whine and grows into something between a laugh and a delightful grunt. And you will have front row to it because he will be leaning against you to soak up every moment of the pets and scratchies. And be prepared, If you give Smokey a scratch behind the ears, he is going to ask for a belly rub. He will politely nudge you for a little more love and so far, 9 out of 10 people will give him more love. Lucky for you Smokey thrives on meeting new people and greets them with a joyful enthusiasm that’s hard to resist. So you can spread the work of Smokey's daily belly rubs and pets around.

Smokey is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs 50 lbs. He looks like he may be a hound/pittie mix but given he is a rescue, his age and breed cannot be guaranteed. Smokey loves his walks and has basic leash manners, though he’s still learning, so he will need continued practice. With you by his side, regular walks will be perfect practice. He is eager to see and experience the world and his enthusiasm is so endearing. Watching him it’s easy to see that he is truly discovering the world for the first time, everything from a tennis ball to meeting a cat was new to him, so his eager approach is understandable. No matter how amazing the world is, he is great about checking in with his people, is eager to please, and loves a treat- all traits that will make training enjoyable.

Smokey was introduced to a handful of dogs to gauge his play style and friendliness. First, he is a social butterfly with other dogs. When he first meets a new friend his excitement is obvious, kind of like meeting a new person who immediately goes in for a hug. Surprising but not bad. Once he has greeted though, he settles into being fun and playful company. He was introduced to a variety of dogs, different energy levels and sizes, males and females. We loved seeing how well he could suit himself to the different dogs. A playful male brought out his love of chase and a very persistent, energetic female showed us how patient and tolerant he can be.

An ideal home for Smokey would have a yard where he can stretch his legs and play chase with a doggie buddy. A moderately playful doggie buddy would be a great fit for him. Smokey was calm and respectful with a 4 year old but knowing he can get the happy bouncies and excitable when showered with love, kids with steady legs would be the best fit. Smokey’s enthusiasm is contagious, but very young children might find his exuberance overwhelming. Smokey would be best in a cat-free home, when introduced to our house cat he was obviously mesmerized but very much wanted to meet and get-to-know the cat. In a home this would lead to a chase and that is not fun for the cat of you.

If you’re looking for a dog who will love you with every fiber of his being, Smokey is your guy. His vocal antics, playful energy, and sweet personality will bring you laughs and the best memories. Smokey has the love to give and can’t wait to find a home where he can share his brand of happy-go-lucky.

https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.

Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!

Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.

The rescue’s hard costs alone for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that Three Little Pitties Rescue is not government funded.

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!

Follow our rescue journey and connect with us on our website and social media platforms. Together, we can make a difference, one adoption at a time.
