My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Stan was brought in by a community member.

At SDHS:
Stan is now ready for its new home!

Why Stan might be the one for your turtle friendly place.
Stan is a red slider turtle in need of a good home. What makes a good home for a red slider turtle? They are aquatic so they need fresh moving water. Sorry, but a bath tub will not make it with Stan. Red sliders are native to warm climates so they need temperature controls. Stan, like most red sliders, is active during the day as he swims through the play structures we have in his habitat. Red sliders love to sun bathe so Stan will need places in his habitat for sun bathing. Constant muted light will help keep Stan from hibernating so you can enjoy each other all year. Once you have their nice habitat in place, red sliders are relatively low maintenance. And, what do you get for building a good home for Stan? Red sliders are not lap pets but they can learn your voice and come to you for food. They are beautiful with their red facial mark and yellow stripes as they swim around in their habitat. It is soothing to watch. Can you picture yourself reading a good book in the sun/shade next to Stan's habitat as you watch him swim and he watches you? Nice. Do you have a safe aquatic garden or want to build one for Stan? If so, come to meet Stan and see the habitat that we have for him. If you have the place, Stan wants to be part of it.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
