As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until her new forever family can be found.
During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.
Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.
Lexi / Female / 2 years / 40lbs / Mixed Breed / Good With Dogs / Untested with Cats / Untested with Children / From Tennessee / Fostered in Mississauga
Meet Lexi! Lexi is a sweet and special dog who is waiting for a forever home to call her own. She is curious, loving, enjoys little toys and all the cuddles from her trusted people. Lexi is much smaller than her photos make her look and is the perfect size for a calm cuddle on the couch.
Lexi is described by her fosters as a relaxed girl who enjoys cuddles, toys and treats. She can be very shy at first and takes time to assess her surroundings, but once she is comfortable her loving personality shines! Lexi loves to play fetch, run outside and snuggle up for a good belly rub. With patience and time, Lexi will show you what a wonderful companion she is.
With people she knows, Lexi is relaxed and always ready to soak up some love and attention. When meeting new people, Lexi will need time to warm up. She uses her crate as a safe space and needs support to learn it is safe to come out and get to know new people. Lexi has not met children yet, but given her calm nature we think she could live with older, respectful kids who understand her boundaries.
Lexi is looking for a family with a home in a quiet area as loud city noises and busy streets make her nervous. A backyard in a quiet area would be great for Lexi to build her confidence outdoors. Lexi has recently started to venture into the world and with nicer weather, it’s the perfect time for her family to continue with this great progress. Lexi needs motivation and support from her humans, and sometimes a lift to get out of the door.
Lexi is dog-social and would benefit from a canine sibling to help build her confidence and provide companionship. She could be a solo pet as long as she is provided opportunities to socialize. Lexi has not met cats but would likely be ok with proper introductions as she is passive in nature.
As a nervous girl, Lexi is still learning that the outside world can be safe and fun. She is gradually learning to walk on leash, but will require support in this area. Lexi is very food-motivated, which makes her the perfect candidate for training. She loves to get her zoomies out in the yard, and is slowly gaining confidence to enjoy walks in quiet neighbourhoods, or parks.
Lexi is a homebody and is on her best behaviour indoors. She is fully potty-trained and crate-trained. She can be left alone and is not destructive. She settles in her crate easily, as long as the crate is in a quiet part of the house away from windows and doors. Lexi is learning more commands over time. Her love of treats makes training a breeze!
Lexi is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker, which will be required for adoption.
Do you have a quiet, calm home and want a cuddly homebody? Lexi is your girl!

More about this rescue
Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.
A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
