My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This pretty gray Paso Fino is named Birdie! Birdie came to Longmeadow in September after her owner passed away. She spent a month in her routine quarantine and then was able to be evaluated by our trainers!

Upon evaluation, the first thing our trainers noticed was that Birdie was a gem for tacking up. She was pleasant and had good ground manners. When she is with a buddy, Birdie stands tied well. When she is alone, she tends to get nervous and will pace a bit. While actively working, Birdie is respectful and pays attention to her handler.

Under saddle, Birdie is a hot mare who is ready to gait off the moment a rider sits down. She seems to be used to being mounted from the ground, as she doesn’t stand too well at the mounting block. She has been ridden both inside and outside here at the Ranch. At her previous home, she enjoyed time spent on the trails. While Birdie can get distracted at times while being ridden outside, this mare is intelligent and understands her job. She will need a confident intermediate rider if adopted to be ridden on her own but would also be a great lead line horse for a child and confident handler.

To help maintain a healthy weight, Birdie will need a grazing muzzle or a dry lot at her adopter’s home. It should also be known that Birdie has melanomas around both eyes and on her forehead. They do not cause her pain, nor do they require any treatment at this time.
