My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Greg (orange tabby) & Wirt (brown tabby) are looking for a home for the holidays!

This bonded pair of brothers hasn't had the easiest start to their lives. Wirt was only 4 weeks old when he was trapped alongside his "brother" Greg outside of local animal control. Both were incredibly sick and malnourished, suffering from severe conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infections. From the moment these two arrived at the shelter they were inseparable, and although they may not be related by blood, they have been through so much together and have such a special bond that we know they'll be happiest to live out their lives together as a pair.

Despite months of constant care and medication, the level of damage to Wirt's eyes left him completely blind. Luckily, he's adjusted very well to life without eyesight and has had his brother beside him the whole time to help guide and comfort him.

Greg is a little on the shy side but has come such a long way since being a terrified, sick little kitten and is getting braver and braver every day. With lots of TLC and reassurance, he's come to really enjoy the company of his human friends and even purrs as soon as we reach into his cage for pets! Wirt has been nothing but sweet and affectionate since day one, and seeing him be so loving and trusting towards humans has really helped Greg gain some confidence!

These sweet boys would love to find a home where they can run around and play, cat-nap together and spend lots of time with all of their favorite people. If Greg & Wirt sound like the pair for you, submit an application to come and meet them!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
