Meet Patch! Patch was hit by a car less than two months ago and came into rescue on October 29th. He sustained multiple fractures in his hips and legs, but in his foster home, he has miraculously recovered without needing surgery. He can walk again, limp and all! He's getting faster on his legs each day working up to short trots in the yard. So far the outcome is looking good and his body is healing well so we are expecting to make almost a full recovery.
Medical Notes: Patch met with the orthopedic surgeon on November 21st, and his doctor had this to say in his written notes. "Pumpkin Patch is walking pretty well. His gait should get stronger over the next 4-6 weeks as the fractures continue to heal." On December 4th, Patch was re-evaluated by the vet and at this time, the vet said he ready to find his forever home!
Potty Habits: Patch is house trained and can stay in his dog pen up to a few hours at a time, but he is still suffering some from constipation due to his injury, but hopefully his system will continue to improve over time.
Personality: Patch is a sweet boy and loves to give kisses and get pets. He loves getting to lay in his dog bed in the living room where he can be around everyone else. His favorite activities are sitting outside on the back patio or laying out in the grass soaking in the sun rays on a cool autumn day, sleeping/lounging inside, chewing on a dog bone, and getting belly rubs from you. He is friendly with all kids and adults, and is in a home with cats and multiple dogs and does well.
Eating Habits: Patch likes to chew on bully sticks, and he eats a small amount of kibble with mixed in wet dog food, 2-3 times a day. (Patch prefers to be fed less, but more often, because he eats slowly and is a picky eater.) He is currently eating Purina Pro Plan chicken and rice flavor kibble dog food.
Because Patch is still in the recovery process, he needs to be in a home with older, sensitive kids that know how to be gentle with him. A home with small kids under the age of 8 wouldn't be a good fit for Patch because he still has some hard days, and we don't want younger, active kids possibly trying to play with him and accidently hurting him. Also, if Patch goes to home with other doggy companions, they need to be about his size if they are going to play with him in order for Patch to be continue to heal.
