My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pete!

Pete is an 8-9 month-old Red Heeler weighing about 30 pounds. This sweet and affectionate pup has had quite the journey, traveling from Texas through multiple shelters before arriving in Illinois. Despite his past, Pete is a well-socialized, loving boy who thrives in the company of others.

What makes Pete special?

Social Butterfly: Pete adores other dogs, loves friendly humans, and even gets along with confident cats.

Faithful Follower: He shadows the dog in his foster home, making him a great companion for a household with another pup.

Active & Affectionate: Pete has the playful energy typical of his breed, balanced with a cuddly, affectionate side.

House-Trained & Leash-Ready: He’s house-trained, great on a leash, and sticks close to his buddy when running free.

What Pete needs:
Pete is still a puppy and can feel insecure when left alone. He would thrive in a home with:
Another dog to keep him company.
Older kids to play with.

Pete is the perfect dog for an active family, someone with another dog, or anyone looking for a loyal and loving companion. If you're ready to welcome Pete into your life, he’s ready to bring his energy, cuddles, and devotion to your home!

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
