My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Maggs, a sweet and beautiful puppy with a heart full of love and joy. At just 5 months old, Maggs was abandoned under a busy Memphis overpass, surviving on food provided by a kind rescuer until she was brought to the local shelter.

While the shelter environment made her a bit timid, Maggs truly came alive when she entered her foster home. Thanks to the other dogs in the household, her confidence blossomed. Maggs loves other dogs and thrives in their company—she’s happiest when she’s playing, romping, and taking cues from her furry friends. Because of this, her forever home must have at least one other dog to keep her company and help her continue to grow.

Now 7 months old, Maggs is everything you’d expect from a puppy: curious, clever, playful, and energetic. She responds well to corrections from her doggy siblings and is eager to please her foster mom. With humans, she’s gentle and affectionate, enjoying attention without being demanding.

Maggs has been an absolute delight to foster. She’s shown no signs of resource guarding, reactivity, or other concerning behaviors. She’s also house-trained, with no accidents in her foster home, and crate-trained—she naps peacefully in her crate while her foster mom is at work.

Because Maggs hasn’t lived with children, she’d do best in a home with kids aged 7 and up. She would thrive with a loving family and an adult dog companion who can be her playmate and mentor.

Maggs is the perfect little lovebug, guaranteed to bring sunshine, laughter, and endless smiles to her forever home. Could you be the family she’s been waiting for?

ATTENTION PUPPY ADOPTERS:  You must attend training/behavior classes with your new dog unless you are experienced dog owners and your adoption coordinator is comfortable with your experience.  This requirement is for the benefit of you and your puppy, so if you experience behavior issues, you have a point of contact.

PLEASE—Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours at a time until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so important in this puppy's life. Do you have the time?

Please consider purchasing this book before adopting.  Perfect Puppy in 7 Days - How to Start Your Puppy Off Right, Sophia Yin, DVM - it is an amazing book that we recommend very highly and have had amazing feedback on.

More about this rescue

PAWS is comprised of a small group of volunteers from New England and Tennessee trying to reduce the euthanization rate (previously 90%) at the Tipton County Animal Control shelter in Brighton, Tennessee. This shelter is forced to euthanize thousands of animals each year due to irresponsible pet owners that do not spay/ neuter their dogs in the area. Millions of dogs in America are euthanized each year due to lack of space and lack of funding to try and find them better homes.

Our mission is to save as many animals as possible, removing them from the shelter, having their veterinary needs met prior to traveling and then finding them loving homes throughout New England. We do this only with the assistance of many people volunteering their time by going to the shelter, transporting the dogs to the vet, fostering dogs who need special care, and arranging for their new and happy homes in this area. Most importantly, we cannot do any of this without those people willing to open their homes and hearts to these lovely creatures.
