Corbyn is a handsome, 4 year old dachshund who has a big personality and a story to tell. He came to DREAM as an owner surrender who was rehomed because of a move. He was said to love exploring the outdoors, chasing all small furries creatures with his high prey drive and was slow to meet new people. Upon coming to his foster home, it was clear this little guy needed some confidence boosting and guidance sorting out his emotions and how he reacts to them. Corbyn spent a couple weeks with some very experienced trainers. They learned that Corbyn has much to offer but will need some specific things to blossom in his adopted home. He is now being fostering and continuing to expand his training on becoming a well balanced happy dog. Each day he is finding the courage to reveal a dog that just wants to love his people and the world around him.
So, if you are interested in adopting Corbyn, let’s talk about his:
1. Athletic nature. Corbyn will need to have time each day to go on walks and explore a fenced yard with a person who takes the lead and he can look to for instruction. He would likely be fantastic for agility or barn hunt activities.
2. Drive to complete tasks, snuffle mats and puzzles. He also excels at finding all treats in dog puzzles. As with all physical exercise, Corbyn will need mental stimulation to help him ease off of his anxious nature.
3.Desire to cuddle. This little guy yearns to be petted and loved but needs to practice calm behavior first.
4.Craving for all the snacks. Did someone say treat? Treats are a great motivation and his adopters can continue to use them with his training and on his journey to being a clam, well centered canine companion.
5.Longing to be told he’s a good dog. This one’s easy! Just say it in a happy, relaxed voice!
6. Need for slow introductions with new people and new canine friends. Corbyn gets along well with is foster doggie friends but needs to get to know them first. Corbyn does best in a calm environment with a consistent schedule and structure. He is a pro at using his “place” command and uses his crate as his place to decompress. Adopters need a home that is laid back with a quiet atmosphere that is steeped in patience to lead Corbyn to successful introductions.
7. Tendency to want to “own “his people. Corbyn loves his people very intensely and will need gentle reminding that he is not in charge but is part of a loving relationship with his humans.
8. Working on knowing when to come and when to wait: recall, door dashing. He is practicing on waiting for his human to go out the door first and coming when called.
9. He a connoisseur of beds, blankets and all places snuggly as he absolutely dislikes being cold.

All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Corbyn will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.
Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.
DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.
Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.
DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
