My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!  My name is Lucas and I am looking for a forever home.  I was witnessed being thrown out of a car in a store parking lot and my owners driving off.  Fortunately for me, a small local rescue was contacted and worked it out with the shelter that they would hold me for my stray hold.  After no one came forward to claim me, a volunteer with that rescue contacted BCAA to see if they could help me and they said yes!  I am about 2 years old and am on the smaller side at aroud 35lbs (although I might have put on a pound or two since I came into foster 'cause I love my food and foster mom said I was a little on the skinny side so I get a little extra in my meals); I shouldn't get too much bigger now as the vet feels I'm at a healthy weight.  I love getting attention from everyone and just want to please so I will be real easy to train, especially if treats are involved.  Typical of my breed, I'm energetic and would love some type of job ... whether that's keeping you healthy by jogging or hiking, possibiliy agility, or helping out with herding the kids.  I have gotten along with most of the other dogs I have met although I tend to like to be in charge and do better with the females.  So far I haven't bothered the cats but would probably want to herd them, too, if they were in my new home.  I have done well in my crate without any accidents or tearing up of my bedding, but if I see or hear you, I will let you know not to forget about me but settle quickly.  I am good on leash as it means I get to go on an adventure with you.  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an applicaion which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org.

Their adoption process

Submit Application

Submitting an application is always our first step - it's free to apply! bcaaofnj.org

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.
