My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!  My name is Millie and I am looking for a forever home.  I used to live with my family in rural Georgia but then Hurricane Helene came through and my parents said they had to leave and move in with family and that I couldn't go.  I was so scared and confused about what was going to happen to me, but then BCAA heard about my predicament and said they would help me ... yeah!  With my fluffy black coat, I appear to be a flat-coated retriever mix (kind of like a black golden retriever with the same loving personality!).  I'm around 4years old so I'm past all of that puppy foolishness, and I'm a great weight at 40lbs.  I love people and getting attention from anyone willing to give it to me.  I also love playing with toys, especially small squeaky ones, and my previous owners said I enjoyed chasing a ball and then have you chase me to get it back.  I love exploring my fenced yard as long as you're out with me but want to come in with you if you decide not to hang around.  I have done ok with some of the dogs I have met and not so good with others so a proper introduction will be needed if there are other dogs in my new home; I haven't bothered the cats I've encountered.  While I would so much prefer to be out with you cuddling on the couch, I have done well in my crate without any accidents, barking or tearing up of my bedding (my previous owners said no stuffed dog beds but blankets are good!).  I love my food and take treats gently.  I'm good on leash as that means I get to be out with you.  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an application which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org.

Their adoption process

Submit Application

Submitting an application is always our first step - it's free to apply! bcaaofnj.org

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.
