My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lynsey / Female / 2.5 years old / 55 lbs / Mixed Breed / Medium Energy / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / No Cats Please / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto

Meet Lynsey! Lynsey came to us from Tennessee where she was abandoned and brought to our partner rescue. Lynsey’s fosters describe her as an affectionate lovebug with an energetic zest for life. You can usually find Lynsey by your side, ready for hugs, kisses and cuddles - or ready to play. She loves to play with toys or wrestle with her dog friends.

Lynsey loves her trusted people and will actively seek out attention from them, whether for cuddles, pets, or play. She’s an excellent snuggler and will lean into hugs with her full body weight. She wants nothing more than to be part of your pack, and is keen to give and receive love.

Lynsey can be a bit shy with new people, approaching slowly and wanting to get in sniffs. She occasionally barks if someone isn’t great with respectful approaches. Once she feels comfortable she will treat new people with the same love and affection. Lynsey has such a deep connection and love for her humans. She has met older children and did okay; given her calm, affectionate nature we think she would do well in a home with respectful, dog-savvy children.

Lynsey is looking for a home where she can feel safe and comfortable. She currently has access to a fenced yard, and absolutely loves to zoom around and have frequent pee breaks. She does need to be supervised at all times, though, as she has proven able to leap an almost six-foot fence to check out a nearby squirrel! She could likely thrive in more urban environments, though, if she had regular and significant walks and play time with dog friends.

Lynsey currently lives with another dog and enjoys their company. A home with a confident resident dog to help build her confidence and be her playmate would be great. In particular, she’d love another medium to high-energy dog with whom to play wrestle and chase. She plays respectfully, engages in good role switching, and is just keen to let her boundless-energy out in positive ways. She could also do well as a solo pet so long as she is given frequent socialization opportunities. Lynsey has shown prey drive toward squirrels, cats and other non-dog animals and is therefore seeking a cat-free home.

As a medium-energy girl, Lynsey will require at least two walks per day and other enrichment opportunities. Play with other dogs is her preferred way to burn energy, but she also very much enjoys training and learning new skills, puzzles for food, and other activities that take advantage of her strong food motivation and seemingly endless appetite! Lynsey has made significant progress in leash walking thanks to ongoing training. She is eager to learn and please but does need someone committed to rewarding her good behaviour. She’s currently learning to loose-leash walk, and has been making huge progress in redirecting reactivity to other dogs through focusing exercises. Her furever family will need to be consistent in these training exercises to maintain great walking experiences, and recognize that she’s still a bit of a puppy at heart: a puppy that needs structure and opportunities to burn lots of energy in positive ways!

Lynsey is adjusting well to life indoors, and her food motivation and eagerness to please makes her an excellent candidate for all kinds of training. She has been non-destructive with free range of the house when others are home, and sleeps in an XPen overnight. Due to past experiences, Lynsey does not currently like crates, however this is likely something that can be overcome with positive training. Lynsey has shown some signs of counter surfing so it is best to ensure tempting human food is out of reach for her. Lynsey is extremely intelligent, motivated, and strong and will thrive with proper training, guidance and love.

Lynsey is a flight risk – particularly given her incredible abilities at high jump and her prey drive – and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker which will be required for adoption.

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 72 hours, please remember we are a volunteer-run organization. We appreciate your patience.

If we think your application has potential to be a good fit, a Fetch + Releash volunteer will contact you to set up a time to speak over the phone and conduct the home visit. In addition to the phone interview and home visit, we also require personal, veterinarian, and landlord reference if applicable.

After the phone interview, home visit & reference check, you will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog.

After the meet and greet, the adoption committee will then review your completed application and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Established in 2016, Fetch + Releash is a volunteer run dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs in need. Our foster dogs come from a variety of different backgrounds such as shelters, strays and surrendered pets, both locally and abroad. Through our network of volunteers, foster homes, trainers and veterinarians, we strive to give every dog the loving forever family they deserve. As a foster-based rescue, our dogs live in private homes across the Greater Toronto Area where they receive the love and attention they need to ready them for adoption.

A dog is a lifetime commitment and not to be discarded due to health, lifestyle change or inconvenience. Some of the top reasons dogs end up in shelters are lack of training, lifestyle changes (i.e. new baby, marriage), relocation, cost of dog ownership, not enough time for pet etc. Our goal is to ensure our adoptive families are well versed in the realities of dog ownership and ready to make a lifetime commitment.
