Age: 2.5 years (as of 6/15/24)
Weight: 20 pounds (as of 11/6/24)
This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped.
Midnight is a beautiful Chiweenie mix who was rescued by a kind couple when she was pregnant. She gave birth to the SOS litter, all of whom have already been adopted. Now, it is Midnight's long-awaited turn to find her forever home!
She is very playful, but reliably responsive to corrections. She has been living in an active foster home for six months with an adult couple, other dogs, and grandchildren who visit regularly. She gets along very well with everyone and enjoys running and playing chase with her canine pals. Midnight has been interested in cats and other small animals, but she is tolerant and easily redirected. She loves lap time with her people and is always happy to chill out. Sometimes, she feels timid when she goes someplace new, but she relaxes quickly.
Midnight has never had an accident in the house, and she is always calm and clean in her crate. She walks sweetly on her leash and rarely barks. She sometimes vomits when she is riding in cars. When she was rescued, she tested positive for heartworm disease, but has always been asymptomatic, and she has just completed her treatment successfully.
Midnight is an intelligent and easygoing dog who will be a good fit for a wide variety of living situations. She is going to be a very affectionate and loyal companion to anyone who is lucky enough to adopt her!
Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia, and please check with your vet before you apply to adopt this dog if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
