My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Big Lou has seen the world and is now ready to settle down in retirement. A quiet guy, Lou is content to lay around in the sun and just hang out. An old injury to his ribs (suspect broken ribs) on one of his secret missions, means Lou isn't a fan of being picked up and carried around. He's more content sitting beside you on the couch and getting some petting. Lou also isn't a fan of the feline variety and would prefer a home with adults and older kids due to his ribs. (We don't know how he is with dogs.) He will let you know when he gets uncomfortable. If you think Lou might be your binge watching buddy, he's ready to relive some adventure on the big screen!

Go meet their pets

We’d love for you to meet our amazing animals! Visitors are welcome to come by anytime to see our cats, but to ensure the best match for both you and the pets, a few steps are needed to meet them up close or to meet our dogs.

Here’s how it works:
1. Submit an Application: Before meeting any of our cats or dogs, please fill out an adoption application online or at the shelter.
2. Schedule a Meet-and-Greet: Once your application is submitted, we’ll schedule a one-on-one meet-and-greet with the animal you’re interested in. We do our best to accommodate same-day visits, but due to space and staffing, scheduling ahead is the best way to ensure your time with your potential new pet.

Whether you’re ready to adopt or just want to learn more about the process, our team is here to help. We can’t wait to introduce you to your new furry family member!

More about this shelter

The City of Great Falls Animal Shelter has been proudly serving pets and people since 2007, when the city took over operations from the Humane Society. Since then, we’ve worked hard to create a safe, welcoming space for homeless and lost animals. We are honored to be designated as a no-kill shelter by the Best Friends Animal Society, reflecting our commitment to saving lives and ensuring every adoptable animal has a chance to thrive.

Our mission is threefold:
- Reuniting Families: We help lost pets find their way back home.
- Finding Forever Homes: Every animal deserves a loving family, and we’re dedicated to making that happen.
- Community Impact: While we’re still growing our programs, we’re proud to host free rabies and microchip clinics for canines to help keep our community’s pets healthy and safe.

We’re a small, city-run team with a big heart, and we rely on the incredible support of our volunteers and donors to keep tails wagging. Every contribution—whether it’s fostering, volunteering, or donating—helps us make a difference.

If you’re looking for your next furry family member or want to learn how you can support our mission, visit us today.
