My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apollo is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!

You wouldn't know it from meeting this happy go lucky Labradoodle boy, but he has a sad story. Apollo had an owner all of his life (Apollo was born on 1/29/16), and his owner's life revolved around his dogs. He was the most devoted dad, and trained his dogs himself. Apollo is a very well-behaved boy who proves age is just a number! Apollo is healthy, enjoys being active, and fun.

Sadly, last year, their owner lost his job and then lost his housing. With his own future uncertain, Apollo's owner realized it was best for everyone if he re-homed his dogs, as heartbreaking as that sounds.

We worked with the owner over the last few weeks to make sure he was certain in his decision and felt supported, and then took them into our program and got them vetted and groomed. '

We decided to place Apollo and his half-brother Rocky (they have the same dad) in separate foster homes and adopt them out separately, with the blessing of their owner. Apollo has the stronger personality and the dynamic can create conflict between the two boys. They are each happy and thriving in their separate fosters.

We know a lot about Apollo from his owner (including that his favorite color is red!), so we knew he would be housebroken, leash trained, crate trained or able to free roam, and fine meeting dogs, cats, and people. Apollo was in a foster home with a 3 year old and 5 month old child, and enjoyed playing with the toddler and mostly ignored the baby! His foster mom writes, "Apollo is such a sweet gentleman! He is very playful (loves catch) and he will put his head in your lap for pets. He is great on a leash and doesn't pull at all. He knows his commands and is just a big softy!"

Apollo's adoption fee is $150. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative. He had a senior bloodwork panel run and is very healthy.
