My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiya! My name is AMARILLO (means "Yellow" en español) and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed:  Terrier/Dutch Ratter/Schnauzer mix (??)

  • Age:  Approx. 5 years old

  • Gender:  Male

  • Weight:  33.4 lbs (15.2 kg)

  • Height:  56 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length:  76 cm (head to butt)

  • Neck:  39 cm

  • Chest:  62 cm

  • Current Location:  Mexico City

RESCUE STORY - I was found in the Mexico City Airport while the rescue team was there sending another rescue pup to Canada. They saw that I was veryyyyy thin and in visible pain, so they took me straight to the vet. The vet thinks I was dragged by a car and suffered injuries as a result. At first, I didn't like to be touched (understandably so!), but I have grown to enjoy gentle pets. I have been living at the shelter here in Mexico City since August 2024 and I am ready to find my forever home in the Pacific North West!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a pretty chill dude who enjoys sleeping. I can often be found chilling by myself in my bed at the shelter- even with 100+ other dogs around me! I do not actively seek out human attention, however I don't reject it either. I prefer my physical interactions to be gentle and soft (just like my soul). I am neutral around other dogs although I do have one friend here who I like to play with between my naps, hehe. I have a good appetite (I eat 3x daily). I am a slow eater and like to really savor my food. When out on walks, I don't seek interactions with other dogs... frankly I just love smelling the trees and the plants. I'm truly a "stop and smell the roses" kinda guy and I'm looking for a human who has the same vibe! I am very sweet and a calm companion- ideal for someone who is looking for a buddy without boatloads of energy.

ENERGY LEVEL - Low - I enjoy walks but spend most of my time sniffing. I play with my shelter friend between my naps, but I do love multiple naps daily!

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. While I’m a pretty sweet boy, I haven’t had much exposure to kiddos at the shelter.

  • Dogs –  Yes, I'm neutral around other dogs. I have one friend who I will play with at the shelter, but all the others I just peacefully coexist with

  • Cats – Yes, I have shared a space with a cat and showed no interest in him.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Pretty good, but I will need some help polishing up! (video) I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! I really love to sniff on my walks!

  • House trained – Work in progress. I do bark when I need to go out to pee, so that's a good start! Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • When I was first rescued, I received medical attention to treat my wounds. The vet said I was fully recovered and wouldn't need further treatments for my injuries.

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. **I will likely need dental work, based off photos of my teefs**

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $728.00 CAD including tax ($650 + 5% GST and 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
