We didn't think they were going to make it. Mimosa, Mayflower, Sweet Potato and Walnut arrived at our shelter with Parvo, a devastating virus that attacks a dog's stomach and intestinal lining. It's usually fatal. Despite our best efforts and excellent medical care, it was for Sweet Potato. But Mimosa, Mayflower, and Walnut pulled through, and to look at them now, you'd never know these happy, HEALTHY, puppies came so close to death! Continuing our chain of miracles, sweet Walnut was adopted! Now Mimosa and Mayflower need families so they can live the lives they fought so hard to keep. Mimosa & Mayflower are about 4 months old, 30-ish pounds (but growing), and likely hound mixes. They are affectionate, snuggly, silly little things, each with a unique and wonderful personality of her own. Mimosa is the sassy one -- but she uses her sass to get as close to you as possible to get ALL the kisses and pets. Mayflower is the old soul -- she patiently waits her turn to climb into your lap and just delight in any attention you give her. Both pups love toys, playtime, nap time, and food! They are NOT bonded. If you adopt one, we have several more puppies at the shelter for the other to play with! PLEASE SHARE THIS POST -- these girls have been through so much in their young lives. If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.
Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00.
Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:
0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years

We are a nonprofit organization that receives no funding from state or federal agencies. All of the funds required to maintain the shelter and care for the dogs come from donations and special fund-raising events. Donations to the shelter are tax deductible.
Our dogs are not euthanized for space. This means that new dogs can only be accepted by the shelter when we have an available kennel.

Regularly walked and exercised
Socialized and loved
Temperament tested
